Manage age-restricted items
Overview
The purchase of age-restricted items requires age verification and enforcing restrictions at the point-of-sale (POS) and during order fulfillment. This ensures compliance with regulations, prevents underage sales, and mitigates legal risks. Merchants are responsible for understanding and complying with any state-specific restrictions on the sale of these items through online ordering platforms in the United States.
At Clover, the categories for age-restricted items are—Alcohol, Tobacco, Over-the-counter (OTC) products, and Pharmacy products, such as vitamins and supplements. Merchants can indicate these items as age-restricted in the Items list on the Merchant Dashboard. During checkout or ordering, a Terms & Conditions (T&C) message displays. The employee or customer needs to confirm the customer’s age to proceed with the purchase. The customer must accept the T&C to continue with order fulfillment.
