Support for credit card surcharging in Canada
A credit card surcharge is a percentage of the post-tax order total collected to partially or fully cover the merchant's costs associated with processing credit card payments.
Credit card surcharge in Canada
Clover onboards merchants in Canada, excluding Quebec, to add a credit surcharge to eligible credit BIN credit card transactions.
Flat surcharge
Canada uses a flat 2.40% credit card surcharge rate. In the Clover Android SDK, the program code
value to categorize and track credit card surcharging for businesses in Canada is 5239.
Payment response
Developers may see an amount in the payment response that is greater than the amount in the payment request when both these conditions are true:
- Merchant is onboarded for Canada credit surcharging, and
- Customer makes payment with an eligible credit bank identification number (BIN) credit card.
For instance, for a payment of $100 made to a merchant in Canada and both conditions as true
, the response amount = $102.40 ($100 + 2.4%)
