Apple Pay integration for WooCommerce

North America—United States and Canada

Apple Pay® is a secure, contactless payment service available on Apple devices. Clover enables merchants to offer Apple Pay on WooCommerce-powered ecommerce sites, allowing customers to complete card-not-present (CNP) transactions directly on the checkout page.

Apple Pay appears by default in a not-enabled state on the block checkout theme when the plugin auto-updates. To display Apple Pay on your checkout page, you must manually enable the setting.

Merchant eligibility

To use the Apple Pay payment method, the merchant:

  • Must have an active Clover account.
  • Must have a WooCommerce store connected to their Clover Merchant UUID (merchantId).
  • Must switch to the block checkout theme, as the Apple Pay option is only available with this theme.

Before you begin

  1. In the WordPress Dashboard:
    1. Enable Apple Pay on the Plugin Settings > Payments page. This option is displayed only for merchants using the block checkout theme.
    2. Define the Permalink. Go to Settings > Permalinks. In Permalink Structure, select an option other than Plain and save your changes. Clover recommends using the Post name option for Apple Pay domain registration to ensure it works correctly.
  2. If you want to test Apple Pay in the sandbox before enabling, use the test cards provided on the Apple developer portal.

For more information, see Configure the Clover Payments for WooCommerce plugin.

Transactions

  • Only one-time payments are supported.
  • Subscriptions, recurring billing, and delayed transactions are not supported.
  • Payments are 3D Secure-enabled by default, reducing chargeback liability.

Payment flow

The payment flow provides a fast, secure, and frictionless checkout experience.

  1. Cardholder selects Apple Pay on the WooCommerce checkout page.
  2. Cardholder authenticates using Face ID, Touch ID, or device passcode.
  3. Clover securely processes the payment
  4. If the transaction succeeds, the cardholder is redirected to the order confirmation screen. The receipt displays the last four digits of the card used.
