Samsung Pay integration for Clover Ecommerce

North America—United States and Canada

Samsung Pay® is a digital wallet available on Samsung phones. It is available as a default payment method on merchant integrations with Hosted Checkout, Payment links, and Invoices. Samsung Pay is compatible with most modern browsers, except of Mozilla Firefox.

Transaction types

  • Supports one-time, cardholder-initiated payments (CIT) only.
  • 3D Secure authentication with fingerprint or PIN.
  • Voids and refunds are allowed to the original card.
  • Surcharging and convenience fees are supported.
  • Fraud controls—velocity, allow or block lists—apply.
  • Not compatible with scheduled or merchant-initiated transactions (MIT).

Merchant eligibility

No additional eligibility criteria are required for Clover merchants. Merchants do not need to complete any onboarding steps beyond the standard Clover setup.

Developer action

For ecommerce websites integrated with Hosted Checkout, Payment links, or Invoices, Samsung Pay is available by default as a payment method. There is no need to integrate directly with the Samsung Pay SDK. Samsung Pay is rendered within an iframe managed by Clover, hosted under the Samsung domain, ensuring a seamless and secure checkout experience.

Payment flow

Samsung Pay eliminates the need for manual entry of card details and addresses, helping to reduce cart abandonment and improve the checkout experience. Transactions are authenticated using a fingerprint or PIN and return a cryptogram upon success. If the cardholder doesn’t respond or an error occurs, the session times out automatically for security.

Guidelines

  • Samsung Wallet does not automatically pass the cardholder’s email address. The cardholder must manually enter their email before selecting Samsung Pay as the payment method.
  • When paying with Samsung Pay on a Samsung device, the customer should avoid opening multiple tabs of the app. Doing so may disrupt the payment session.

How it works

  1. Cardholder selects Samsung Pay at the ecommerce checkout.
  2. A Samsung-hosted iframe appears.
  3. Cardholder enters their email or scans a code to begin payment.
  4. A notification is sent to their Samsung device.
  5. After successful payment, the cardholder is redirected to the confirmation screen.
