Test Merchant IDs & API Tokens

The following guide will walk you through the process of finding your Merchant ID and creating an API Token. You'll need this information to test interactions with Clover's REST API and for Android development.

NOTE

These instructions are for development and testing only. A production app must generate tokens via OAuth or the Android SDK.

Get your test merchant's ID (mId)

  1. Log in to your sandbox developer account.

  2. Click on the user icon at the top right, and then select your merchant from the drop-down list. Click on the merchant name to go to the merchant account. You will be taken to the merchant dashboard.

  3. Note the URL in your browser's address bar. The thirteen-character sequence of numbers and letters at the end of the URL is your merchant ID.

For the URL https://sandbox.dev.clover.com/home/m/17ABN94ZVQVTT, the merchant ID is 17ABN94ZVQVTT.

Create a test API token

IMPORTANT

Production apps must generate API tokens using OAuth or the Clover Android SDK. Merchant API tokens are intended for development and testing only. In production environments, Merchant API tokens have additional restrictions and are more severely rate limited.

  1. On the Merchant Dashboard, click Setup.

  2. Navigate to API Tokens. Click on API Tokens in the sidebar. This is where you will generate your API tokens.

  3. Enter a name for the token and click Generate Token. The system generates a new token for you.

  1. You can customize the permissions associated with the token by checking the appropriate boxes.
