Clover policies

Clover's policies ensure legal, fair, and safe application development by third-party app developers.

In this section, we discuss the following policies:

  • Clover Credit Card Surcharging Policy
  • Clover App Market Ratings & Reviews Policy

Clover Credit Card Surcharging policy

United States
Canada

Clover permits credit surcharging by US and Canadian merchants that comply with card brand guidelines. The implementation of surcharges is handled entirely by the Clover platform and the payment systems it uses. Third-party apps are not allowed to include features which add to or circumvent the surcharges set for the merchant by Clover. Third-party apps are limited to reading and displaying the surcharge data available from the Clover APIs and SDKs.

Clover does not prohibit applications that provide a discount to customers when cash or debit is tendered to a Merchant. Developers are responsible for ensuring their Applications properly implement their cash discount program and comply with applicable rules and laws. The publication of a purported cash discount Application in the Clover App Market does not imply such an application is in compliance with applicable rules and laws. If a Merchant receives a fine, fee, or penalty for its use of a Developer’s cash discount application, the Developer will be responsible for promptly reimbursing such Merchants.

Clover App Market Ratings & Reviews Policy

United States
Canada
Europe
Latin America

In June 2019, Clover introduced Ratings and Reviews on the Clover App Market. On the App Details page, Clover merchants can submit one to five-star ratings and accompanying reviews for installed apps. Once your app has a minimum of three reviews, the average rating for your app displays on the Clover App Market.

Inappropriate reviews

Note the following policies defining what makes a review inappropriate.

📘

NOTE

Clover reserves the right to flag and remove inappropriate ratings and reviews from the app market.

Reviewer has a conflict of interest

A review is considered inappropriate if the reviewer is:

  • affiliated with the developer
  • promoting the developer or competitor
  • a competitor or former employee of the developer
  • receiving payments or other incentives for writing the review
  • receiving threats for writing the review
  • the app developer
  • the app developer writing on behalf of Clover merchants

📘

NOTE

Reviewing your own app or the app of a competitor is grounds for suspension or removal from the Clover App Market.

Review does not reflect the merchant experience

A review is considered inappropriate if it appears to be:

  • about a different app
  • about a sales channel
  • about Clover in general
  • plagiarized from another source

Review includes inappropriate content

A review is considered inappropriate if it appears to contain:

  • self-promotional content
  • false or misleading information
  • hate speech, lewd commentary, or threatening language
  • private information about merchants, employees, or otherwise

Feedback is resolved

A review is considered inappropriate if it is about an issue that is fixed by the developer at a later time. In this case, once the issue is verified as resolved, Clover removes the review.
